Abstract: | Rapid progress in nanotechnology has triggered the use of newlinenanostructures as scaffolds for the purpose of tissue engineering Electrospun newlinenanofibers have shown greater potential as an ideal scaffold for tissue newlineregeneration However both hard and soft tissues require different newlinespecifications of scaffolds with well defined surface topography surface newlinefunctionalization and mechanical strength for support of the tissue Hence the newlineobjectives of the present research work are to design and fabricate newlinebiocomposite nanofibrous scaffolds to suite the requirements of two different newlinekinds of tissues I e bone and skin tissues for tissue engineering applications newlineAloe vera AV is a medicinal herb with a well established newlinespectrum of wound healing activity The first objective was to prepare a newlinetransdermal biomaterial for skin tissue engineering by combining the newlinebiological properties of AV and the advantages of electrospun matrices The newlineelectrospun nanofibrous scaffold of polycaprolactone PCL containing 5 and newline10 wt of lyophilized powder of AV were fabricated and compared with newlinePCL nanofibrous scaffold containing 2 wt collagen the native newlineextracellular matrix for dermal substitutes newline newline |
