Abstract: The present investigation entitled Genetic studies for yield and its contributing characters in bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) was conducted at Oil Seed Farm, Kalyanpur, C.S. Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, Kanpur-208002 (U.P.) during Rabi season, 2021-22. A total of 100 treatments with 10 parents (45 F1s and 45 F2s) were evaluated for the study of twelve quantitative characters of wheat in three replications. The observations were recorded on twelve characters namely; days to 75% flowering, plant height (cm), days to maturity, number of tillers per plant, spike length (cm), number of spikelets per spike, ear density, number of grains per spike, 1000-grain weight (g), duration of reproductive phase, protein content (%), and grain yield per plant (g). Analysis of variance for all the 12 characters as mentioned above was carried out for testing the significance of differences among treatments. Genetic components and combining ability analysis showed presence of additive and non- additive gene action for all the traits but the later was predominant. The mean degree of dominant more than unity revealed over dominance newline
