Effect of life skills education programme on academic performance and social competence in relation to spiritual intelligence of adolescents

Abstract

The present study examined the effects of life skills education programme on social competence and academic performance of adolescents. Adolescence is a transition period that bridges childhood and adulthood during which major physical, cognitive and psychological changes occur, which need to be addressed. It is also a period of storm and stress for many adolescents. It is a period of great stress and storm as rapid physical and mental changes occur during this period which affects their academic performance and social competence. Life skills education programme improved academic performance by mitigating the adverse effects of stress and negative emotions, hence, facilitates smooth life through the skills of problem solving and decision making etc. creating positive perspective towards life. Life skills education programme equipped adolescents with psycho- social competencies and that helped them to come up with school adjustment and improve their academic performance. Findings of the study revealed that there is a significant influence of life skills education programme on social competence and academic performance of adolescents. newline
