Abstract: | There is already an overuse of the RF spectrum driven by the demand for wireless communication services. A flurry of research initiatives have been published in recent years regarding the use of several high-frequency bands to address spectrum deficits. Visible Light Communication (VLC) is one such impending wireless communication advancement. VLC is a subset of Optical Wireless Communication (OWC) that serves lighting and communication simultaneously. VLC uses white light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to transmit data by modulating light in the visible spectrum from 380nm to 780nm. ON light carries data 1, and OFF light carries data 0. LEDs can modulate at speeds invisible to the human eye. In general, optical filters, optical concentrators, photodetectors, and amplification circuits make up VLC receivers. newlineMore than 80% of people spend their time indoors, making VLC a viable indoor wireless technology.
