Abstract: The Ultra Wide Band UWB ad hoc network consists of wireless newlinenodes interconnected by UWB communication technology The unique newlinecharacteristics of UWB technology are high data rate low power newlineconsumption short range and immunity to multipath fading low cost newlinehardware and security Some of the potential applications UWB ad hoc newlinenetworks include military applications emergency search and rescue newlinecollaborative computing distributed computing home applications wireless newlinesensor networks and wireless mesh networks In the recent past a number of newlineprotocols have been proposed to optimize the performance of UWB ad hoc newlinenetworks newlineIn Conventional routing protocols such as Ad hoc On Demand newlineDistance vector AODV and Dynamic Source Routing DSR severe newlineperformance deterioration occurs due to lack of awareness of Medium Access newlineControl MAC specific constraints such as queuing delay and transmission newlineDelay The targeted routing protocol should consider the queuing delay newlinevariations among the different access category AC queues Since the MAC newlinespecific parameters are highly variable the behaviour of the routing protocol newlinehas to be modified according to the variations in the underlying MAC newlineparameters We present a cross layer based routing protocol with a power newlinesaving technique for UWB ad hoc networks The protocol uses MAC and newlinePhysical layer PHY specific information and maintains a separate route per newlineAccess Category AC for destination in its routing tables newline newline
