Abstract: | Inorganic chemists from nineteen century have been pursuing the depth of coordination compound. Schiff base and their metal complexes acquired unique position due to huge application in various field of science i.e. Medicinal chemistry, Catalysis, Pharmacology, Analytical chemistry, Biology, Food and Dye industries etc. They have also played interesting biological actions such as antibacterial, antifungal, antiparasitic, antitubercular and insect repellent properties. Schiff base and its metal complexes have been developed many clinically successful anticancer drugs. newlineThe origin of imine and azomethine is in natural, naturally derived, unnatural molecules. Schiff Bases named after Hugo Schiff in 1964, in which the carbonyl group is replaced by an imine and azomethine group. He got Noble prize for its discovery. The role of Schiff base depends on carbon nitrogen double bond in the progress of co-ordination chemistry. The synthesis of Schiff base was first reported by Schiff as condensation product of primary amines with carbonyl compounds. The effectiveness of ligand depends on azomethine functional group. newlineIn modern coordination chemistry, the Schiff base and its metal complexes deal a vital role. The ability of Schiff base for the formation of coordinate bond with many metal ions through both azomethine group and phenolic group. Enormous research works have been carried out on Schiff bases in solutions as well as solid state by several workers. However, literature survey reveals that comparatively very less newlinework is reported on the Schiff bases derived from 3-formylchromone, substituted 3-formylchromone, aminoquinolines and their metal complexes. newlineChapter I newlineIn this chapter there is introduction to Schiff bases and their transition metal complexes as a foundation of coordination chemistry. The role of theories in explaining the nature of bond between metal and ligand. A brief account for the application of metal complexes. Literature survey of metal complexes according to previous related study and aim of present res |
