Abstract: This research project attempts to study the novels of Indian English writers with a newlinespecial focus on Khushwant Singh, Salman Rushdie and Amitav Ghosh. It is a historical, newlinesocial, political and cultural study of their novels, respectively Khushwant Singh s Train to newlinePakistan, I Shall Not Hear the Nightingale and Delhi; Midnight s Children, Shame and The newlineMoor s Last Sigh, by Salman Rushdie and The Shadow Lines, In An Antique Land and The newlineGlass Palace by Amitav Ghosh. The intention to choose such a topic is to clarify the newlinehistorical event and incident of the novels. The present research work is thus rooted in newlinemultiple shades of analysis. It studies novels in general as well as specific examples. newlineKhushwant Singh, Salman Rushdie and Amitav Ghosh have distinctly clarified history to a newlinegreat extent. The present study has covered the relevant subjects, accordingly, the extensity of newlineresearch work, it has encompasses for the study of anthropology, history, sociology and newlinepolitical science so on. Indian movements, Indian politics, culture, wars and riots, inner most newlineconvulsions psyche, intricate contradictions, impossible situations, culture and the spirit of newlinepeople who sprigthfully survived are the various facets of their projection of history. newlineThe opening chapter consists of aims and objectives, primary and secondary sources, newlinelimitations of the study, plan of the study, relevance to present times etc. The discussion of newlinemethods and sources brings out the scope of the study with its limitations. Various methods newlineare adopted for the study like analytical and descriptive etc. newlineThe first chapter deals with the conceptual analysis of history, relation between history newlineand fiction and historical approach. Generally, history is a record of past events or critical newlineaccount of the past events. It highlights the definition of history: its importance and history newlineof India, multicultural diversity of Indian society and its feature.
