Abstract: | Aeromonas spp. were isolated and identified from a healthy and diseased Indian major newlinecarp viz. Catla (Catla catla), Rohu (Labeo rohita) and common carp (Cyprinus carpio) newlinecollected from Latur city, India. Aeromonas spp. is Gram negative bacteria which are newlinepathogenic to fish, amphibians and also humans basing on its biochemical properties, newlineit was categorized into A1, A2 and A3 respectively. A1 showed positive reaction to newlinelysine decarboxylase where as A2 showed negative to esculin hydrolysis. All the strain newlineshowed negative reaction to malonate where as other two showed positive reaction. The newlinepresent study clearly indicates that this organism has a wide spread of spectrum to newlinespread disease in Indian major and common carps newlineKeywords: Aeromonas, Catla catla, Labeo rohita and Cyprinus carpio newlineChapter II newlineIsolation, Characterization and Identification of Potential Probiotic newlinebacteria from the Indian Major carps and Common Carp newlineAbstract: newlineTotal four bacterial strains from intestinal source designated as PB1, PB2, PB3 newlineand PB4 were isolated and characterized on the basis of different morphological, newlinephysiological and biochemical characteristics. These bacteria were examined for their newlineinhibitory and antagonistic properties against the three-target fish pathogenic bacterial newlinestrains of Aeromonas species as A1, A2, and A3. All the intestinal bacteria had the newlineability to inhibit the target strains. Inhibitory effects of the intestinal bacterial strains newlineranged from 4.2 to 11.5 mm. The strain PB4 showed highest inhibition whereas strain newlinePB3 showed lowest inhibition. In the present study it is strongly suggested that effective newlinecontrol of Aeromonas in the Indian major carp is possible using these intestinal bacteria. newlineAmong them PB4 was more effective as a Probiotic bacterium. Therefore, the positive newlineresults of this study recommend that further studies in challenge experiments in fish to newlineexplore their probiotic effects having immense scope for being used as a potential newlineprobiotic in aquaculture. newlineKeywords: Probiotic bacteria, Indian Major car |
