With the rapid proliferation of modern wireless communication technology, there are many integrated challenges for antenna design, especially where the physical space is constrained. A high-level integration of microwave elements into compact lightweight systems along with their physical characteristics is paramount in today s wireless com- munication terminals. A prominent method in antenna design is characteristic mode analysis (CMA), which gives a systematic and unique analysis for antenna design in today s world. Based on this analysis the thesis has been presented to the Design and development of wideband antennas using characteristic mode analysis . The po- tential to develop an antenna using an analysis method explains physical insights into antenna working mechanisms. It can provide an alternative to current solutions with improved functionality and performance for antenna designs. Despite great research in the context of antenna structures, further investigation is needed in order to improve their functionality. Hence, different configurations of antenna structures are designed to improve impedance band (IBW), axial ratio bandwidth (ARBW), and mutual coupling reduction. newlineTo improve the aforementioned parameters, the primary objective of the research begins with a brief survey of CMA on various antenna structures is presented. This survey has been divided into two separate sections such as IBW enhancement for non- circular polarized antenna and ARBW for circularly polarized (CP) antennas. This survey highlights the importance of characteristic mode (CM) parameters in the en- hancement of both IBW and ARBW along with their radiation properties. With the understanding of CM theory, different patch structures are analyzed for antenna per- formance enhancement. For these different shapes like symmetric, asymmetric square patch, square patches with corner truncation, and annular ring, etc, are used. newlineAs a first design, using one of those structures, an ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna is designed and extended to
