Abstract: | newlineAbstract: newlineDhatura is a toxic plant available in almost all parts of the country throughout the year. This can grows as a wild crop in the barren lands. Due to its easy availability and hallucinogenic action, incidences and prevalence of Dhatura poisoning is not rare. Illiteracy, poverty, superstitions and misbelief in the society upsurges its use for drug abuse leading to accidental intoxication. This can produce sever anticholinergic intoxication which may turn fatal in pediatric age group. Current established antidote therapy for Dhatura toxicity is Inj. Physostigmine along with symptomatic treatment. But its unavailability and side effects restricts its clinical use. Hence there required easily available, safer and cost effective alternate therapy which can efficiently encounter the Dhatura toxicity. Vruntaka Phala Beeja Swarasa (VPBS) is one of the formulations mentioned in Anupana Manjiri and Rasajalanidhi against Dhatura Beeja poisoning. This formulation is very easy to prepare, easy to administer and cost effective. Hence In Vivo study to assess efficacy of Vruntaka Phala Beeja (Solanum melongena Linn.) Swarasa in Dhatura Beeja (Datura metel Linn.) poisoning in Wistar rats was planned. For present study, physical parameters like change in body temperature, change in heart rate, change in locomotor activity along with biochemical parameters like AST, ALT, ALP, Sr. Urea and Sr. Creatinine and histopathological examination of visceral organs were assessed. It was concluded that VPBS was found mild to high efficacy in Dhatura Beeja poisoning in Wistar rats. It was also concluded that VPBS was as efficacious as Inj. Physostigmine against Dhatura Beeja poisoning in Wistar rats. newlineKey words: Vruntaka Phala Beeja Swarasa, Datura metel Linn., Dhatura toxicity, In Vivo study. |
