Abstract: The present thesis entitled Shashi Tharoor s Selected Non-fiction Prose Works: A Critical Study is an attempt to explore the non-fiction prose works of Shashi Tharoor with special reference to social, cultural and political perspectives. newlineThe study comprises the analytical, interpretative and critical study of Shashi Tharoor s non-fiction prose works: India: From Midnight to the Millennium and Beyond; The Elephant, The Tiger, and the Cellphone: Reflections on India, the Emerging 21st-century Power; India: The Future Is Now and India Shastra: Reflections on Nation in our Time with the help of primary, secondary sources as well as print and electronic media. It is also a critical study of human phenomenon of Indian life, politics, culture, market strategies and historical changes. The point to analysis makes it easy, compatible to contemplate the intention, objective behind the criticism of Indian society and its economic growth. newlineThe thesis consists of five chapters. The first chapter is introductory in nature. Here the researcher presents the life and works of Shashi Tharoor. It puts a monitor on the spectrum of life. It puts the objective of the research along with scope and limitation of the research. The writer has a progressive vision. In his non-fiction works, he has explored key issues like the Indian life, society, culture and politics. newlineThe second chapter deals with the social perspective in his non-fiction prose works. The life is also very well illustrated here. The typical clash and social issues arising out of them are beautifully depicted here. India s national character has long been built on the trademark unity in diversity. It has been the potential figure for the making and defacing of India.
