dc.description.abstractThe present study titled Maternal and child health care: A study in Sangrur district of Punjab attempted to analyse the level of awareness of the respondents (women in their reproductive years) regarding maternal and child health care and examined socio- cultural factors affecting maternal and child health prevalent in the area under study and focused on the problems faced by mothers while seeking health care services. The study also discussed the problems faced by the informed about the ante natal and post- natal care during pregnancy and had knowledge regarding various schemed related to maternal and child health care. Further, familial influence was predominately prevalent in the areas under study which in turn had adverse impact on maternal and child health. The dominance of Socio- cultural beliefs and practices and myths related to pregnancy were also of great significance and commonly practiced during pregnancy. The women also faced various problems while seeking institutional assistance at the time of delivery such as lack of infrastructure and inadequate medical staff was considered as a major concern. newlineHowever, the health care providers also faced various problems such as lack of infrastructure and clean water, no electricity at primary health centers and with no easy availability of transportation and gave emphasis on certain due importance was also given to the suggestions recommended by the respondents as well as health care providers for further improvements. newline newline
