Abstract: Growing population and technological innovations pave the way for newlineenormous energy consumption resulting in a huge energy demand. Besides, newlinegreenhouse gas emission is a major crisis for all countries. Consequently, newlineenergy efficiency standards are gaining importance with respect to economic newlineand environmental concerns. Globally, electric motors are extensively used in newlineindustrial, commercial and household appliances. Therefore, the energy newlineconsumption of these motors is high and so the energy efficiency standards newlineare firmly implemented. These standards are framed by International Electrotechnical newlineCommission (IEC). Based on IEC standards, the efficiency levels of newlinemotors are categorized as Standard Efficiency (IE1), High Efficiency (IE2), newlinePremium Efficiency (IE3) and Super Premium Efficiency (IE4). In addition, newlineUltra-Premium Efficiency (IE5) is a new level of efficiency recently newlinepropounded by IEC. newlinePresently, IE2 and IE3 efficiency Squirrel Cage Induction Motors newline(SCIM) are widely used in industries due to their advantages such as rugged newlineconstruction, easy manufacturing, low cost and maintenance-free operation. newlineThe improvement of efficiency improvement in SCIM above IE3 is fairly newlinedifficult because of load dependent copper loss and core loss. Further, it is newlinedifficult to increase the power factor of SCIM with the same frame size and newlineair-gap. Owing to this, IE4 efficiency Line Start Permanent Magnet newlineSynchronous Motors (LSPMSM) contributes to a great extent in the industrial newlinemotor market. LSPMSM is inherently started and it operates through power newlinesystem grid without inverter, control circuit and rotor position sensor newline
