Analysis of health related physical fitness and anthropometrical profile of pre adolescents of Punjab state

Abstract

This study was conducted to compare the health related physical fitness and anthropometrical profile of rural and urban pre adolescents in Punjab, India. 3000 pre adolescents from different schools situated in urban and rural areas were randomly selected, to serve as subjects for this study. All the subjects were tested in the selected variables of health related physical fitness and anthropometrical profile e.g. cardiorespiratory endurance, abdominal strength, body composition and flexibility. The results of the findings of this study revealed that rural subjects performed significantly better in cardiorespiratory endurance, abdominal strength and body composition than their urban counterparts. However, the flexibility performance of urban subjects was significantly better than the rural subjects. The results of the study also revealed that urban subjects were significantly taller and heavier than rural subjects and also had significant greater lower body girths than rural subjects. Whereas on upper and lower leg girths, urban school subjects had significantly greater values than rural school subjects. Whereas, the rural school subjects were significantly better in arm girths, than urban school subjects. The results of the findings also revealed that BMI and lower body girths had negatively correlated with cardiorespiratory endurance abdominal strength and flexibility. The results of study confirmed that urban and rural subjects differ significantly in their cardiorespiratory endurance, abdominal strength, body composition, flexibility and anthropometrical measurements. newline
