Abstract: Vehicular Ad Hoc Network (VANET) is a special type of Ad Hoc network in which each vehicle interconnects to form a network for effective communication with each other. Communication in VANET is classified into three types namely Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) communication, Vehicle to Road Side Unit (RSU) communication and inter RSU communication. Current development in automobile industry has increased the total number of vehicles in all segments, namely, two wheelers, passenger and commercial vehicles. Though these vehicles offer various facilities for improving the quality of human lives, the growth in the number of vehicles has created some challenges day by day, such as accidents, which lead to loss of human lifes and fatal injuries. Apart from these, other unsolicited happenings like traffic jam, road accident and poor communications generate considerable waste of time, fuel and energy. Texas Transportation Institute (TTI) estimates that driving challenges and occurrences of these unwanted road events cannot be completely stopped but can be reduced by using the smart transportation system supported by VANET. newlineNowadays, heavy increase in traffic leads increased road accidents. They have become a major threat to lives both in urban and rural areas. Hence, some safety measures are implemented and they are subjected as matter of recent researches. When traffic delays increases the peak time travellers waste many hours. This problem can be solved by providing appropriate and timely information to the vehicle or to the driver. Surveys indicate that sixty percent roadway collisions could be avoided if the operators of the vehicles are provided warning at least one-half second prior to a collision newline
