dc.description.abstractThe aim of this research is to study the effectiveness of ESL teacher newlinecompetence and to randomly assess the teaching methodologies adopted in newlinethe classrooms of colleges of Tamil Nadu. ESL teaching methodologies newlinewhich has revolutionized the teaching style globally has not attained the newlinedesired goals in the colleges of Tamil Nadu. In spite of two decades of newlineconstant efforts by the Government, somewhere at the stages of newlineimplementation things get frozen and slowly fizzle out. In spite of subject newlineknowledge being the primary source to fetch a job; still English plays a major newlinerole in making the students employable. Lack of English language skills is newlineconcern. This research is an attempt to get to the root of the issue and newlineunderstand where the core problem lies. The research involves primarily, newlineamong other things, such as; (a) field work by visiting colleges including newlinedistribution of questionnaires to teachers (b) class observation (c) analysis of newlinethe classroom teaching by using observation data (d) the drawing of newlineconclusion from the data and making recommendations based on them newline
