Abstract: The study contributes significantly to literature by generating empirical information on the organizational structure, management activities and functioning, economic performance, identification of the benchmark and laggard self-help groups (SHGs), and socio-economic impact of the SHGs on the beneficiaries in the district Mewat, Haryana. The research found size stability and homogeneity with respect to membership of SHGs. The study revealed that SHGs have the potential to achieve the defined goals viz eradication of poverty by providing financial services, developing human capital, and enhancing social capital. The study identifies various bottlenecks and blockages related to the organizational structure, functioning, management, and performance of the SHGs to make them contribute to the overall welfare of the society newline
