Abstract: Radioactivity is a part of our earth - it has existed all along. Naturally occurring newlineradioactive materials are present in earth s crust, the floors and walls of our homes, newlineschools, or offices and in the food we eat and drink. There are radioactive gases in the newlineair we breathe. Exposure to ionizing radiation causes damage to living tissue, and can newlineresult in mutation, radiation sickness, cancer and death. Various intergovernmental newlineand non-governmental agencies like ICRP, WHO, IAEA, USEPA, UNSCEAR, newlineOECD, NCRP, etc. are regularly monitoring the radiation levels, exposure of the newlinepublic, its health effects and thereby are giving recommendation for the control and newlineprotection from radiations newline
