Abstract: | It is widely known that the Moringa oleifera tree possesses a vast range of medicinal and therapeutic properties. The ethanolic extract of leaves of M.oleifera seems one such candidate with potential for chemoprevention and chemotherapy. As a natural resource, M.oleifera leaves extract has the advantages of nutritive aspects, easy availability, low cost and safety to humans. Preclinical studies have primarily established Moringa as a potential preventive and therapeutic agent against various types of cancer. The anticancer actions of ethanolic leaves extract of M.oleifera are associated with modulation of major hallmark events in tumor cells including inhibition of excessive proliferation, induction of cell death, suppression of angiogenesis, restoration of cellular redox balance, and enhancement of immune response against tumor cells. With the profile of bioactive components in M.oleifera unclear, identification of effective anticancer components and study of individual components require further research including research on animal models. Identification and characterization of individual anticancer components of Moringa are prerequisites for the development of Moringa based therapeutic regimens. The potential of using M.oleifera leaves to enhance the efficacy of other chemotherapeutic agents or as adjuvant in immunotherapy and radiotherapy appears worthy of further exploration. newline newline newline |
