Abstract: | Facebook is one of the most popular social media platforms that allow hundreds of people to newlinecommunicate and interact with each other. It has become a prominent tool of many people for newlineexpressing their opinions, ideas, messages, etc. As it is also widely used by students, it becomes newlinea good tool to use the same for learning purposes. newlineThis study investigates the effectiveness of using Facebook as a tool for learning English as newlineforeign language among Libyan high school students. The aims of this thesis are to verify newlinewhether Facebook is an appropriate tool to develop language skills among Libyan high school newlinestudents and to discover the benefits of using Facebook in the classroom in learning English as a newlineforeign language among Libyan high school students. It also sheds light on issues concerning newlineusing social networking websites in academic field of teaching English language meaningfully. newlineThe collected data were taken from the pre-test and the post-test after being corrected by the newlineinstructor according to answer model. A test was used to determine if there was any significant newlinedifference between the mean scores on the pre-test and the post-test and to measure the newlineachievement of the secondary third grade students in the English language subject.The students newlinewere divided randomly into a control group and an experimental group. The control group newlinestudied the course through the traditional method while the experimental group used both newlinetraditional method and using Facebook.Another method was the questionnaire that isgiven to newlinestudents after teaching them English language via Facebook. The study found that Facebook had newlinea positive effect on Libyan students and appropriate tool to learning English language. The newlineresults revealed significant differences between the two groups in favor of the experimental newlinegroup which made significant progress in the post-test.
