Abstract: | Power electronics is about converting electrical power from the newlineavailable form to the required form. While converting power from the available newlineform to the required form the conversion process is required to satisfy certain newlineconstraints. Power conversion form the available form to the required form newlineshould happen with the maximum possible power conversion efficiency and newlineminimal losses. Power quality is another important aspect and the power newlinedelivered from a power electronic converter to the load should be of the quality newlinedemanded by the load. Similarly the power conversion process is not expected to newlinepollute the form of the available power because some other loads which need newlinepower in the form as of the source may be connected to the source. newlineAnother important requirement of a power electronic converter is that newlinethe process of power conversion should be carried out with a minimum of newlineconstituent components. Minimal usage of components generally leads to newlinereduction of production cost and improves the reliability and increases the life of newlinethe converter. More number of power electronic switches leads to increased newlineswitching losses. Passive elements like the inductors and capacitors are useful in newlinediscrete power conversion process for several purposes including the continuous newlinedelivery of power to the load even though the converter uses discrete power newlineelectronic switches which assume only the On or Off states. Passive elements newlinelike Inductors and capacitors are energy storage elements and this property of newlinethe passive elements help to build filters so that the unwanted harmonics and newlineripple may be removed from the AC or the DC bus bars. newline |
