Abstract: Macrocyclic chemistry is an active area of current research in inorganic chemistry newlinethroughout the world. The swift development in bioinorganic chemistry has been a newlinecrucial constituent in escalating the interest in complexes of macrocyclic compounds. newlineMacrocycles are cyclic molecules where ligands containing donor atoms form coordinate newlinebonds with metal centers. In other words, the macrocyclic ring ought to have a newlineminimum of nine atoms out of which at least three donor atoms should come from newlinemacrocyclic ligands. newlineIn recent times, the number of macrocyclic complexes has increased abundantly due newlineto the following reasons. newline1. Well defined unique and interesting geometries. newline2. Resemblance with naturally occurring macrocyclic complexes of human interest. newline3. Unique ion binding properties and their present and future applications. newlineThe most significant feature of macrocyclic molecules is the macrocyclic effect introduced newlineby Cabbiness and Margerum. In the complexes, the rigid location of the donor newlineatoms causes the decrease of an entropic effect in its binding energy which provides newlinemore stability to the macrocyclic complexes. A macrocyclic ligand can bind a metal newlinecentre within the central cavity. The characteristics of metal complexes are influenced newlineby the magnitude of the hole of the macrocyclic ligand which is restored by the no. of newlinedonor atoms available in the macrocyclic ring. newline
