Abstract: | newlineAs far as the value addition of coir is concerned, flame retardancy is newlineconsidered to be one of the most important properties in both industries as newlinewell as academic researchers. Flame retardant property with thermal newlinestability was imparted to coir by natural plant extracts and its bio enriched newlineformulation. The plant extracts as well as bio enriched liquor was newlinecharacterised by elemental and phytochemical analysis. Flame retardant newlineproperties of the untreated and treated coir samples were analysed by newlinevertical flammability, horizontal flammability, limiting oxygen index and newlinetablet test. Pyrolysis and physiochemical composition of untreated and newlinefire-retardant coir were evaluated by thermogravimetric analysis, fourier newlinetransform infrared spectroscopic analysis and scanning electron newlinemicroscope-energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. Physical and newlinemechanical properties of untreated and treated fiber were carried out newlineusing tensile strength, flexural rigidity, density and water absorption newlineanalysis. Microbial studies of bio enriched fire-retardant liquor were newlinecarried out using Jensen s media and the observations prove that nitrogen newlineenrichment is happened in the liquor. The overall analysis revealed that all newlinethe treated fabrics had good flame resistance property compared to the newlinecontrol fabrics. |
