Abstract: | Phosphors are considered as a key and technologically important newlineprerequisite component, owing to their functionality and success in various newlinetypes of lighting and display applications. Phosphors are defined as solid, newlineinorganic, crystalline materials that show luminescence under excitation. In newlinegeneral, phosphors emit colours ranging from blue to red. On combining blue newline(B), green (G) and red (R) colour emitting phosphors, it is hard to retrieve newlinelong-lasting white light phosphorescence in proper ratio. To identify novel newlineand potential phosphor materials for white light emitting diodes (WLEDs), newlinethe selection of host materials and the synthesis methods play a significant newlinerole. The current thesis aims to report the synthesis and characterization of newlinevarious rare earth (Dy3+, Sm3+, Eu3+) doped aluminates (SrAl2O4, newlineCa12Al14O33, MgAl2O4) and zirconates (Li7La3Zr2O12) synthesized by solid newlinestate reaction (SSR) route. Further, the effect of rare earth doping newlineconcentration on the structural, optical and luminescence properties is newlineinvestigated by employing various characterization techniques and the results newlineare analysed and discussed in detail. newlineThe first chapter presents a brief introduction to phosphors, their newlineimportance, different luminescence materials and their classifications. The newlineimportance of aluminate and zirconate-based host materials is explained in newlinedetail. Basics of rare earth activators and inorganic phosphors are also newlinedescribed in this chapter. Methodologies of light emitting diodes (LEDs) newlinemixture, a luminescent material for the production of white light and a few newlineapplications of rare earth doped phosphors in lighting systems are also newlineexplained in brief along with suitable references. newline |
