Abstract: newlineThe present thesis entitled Pharmacognosical and Pharmacological Evaluation of newlineStigma Maydis . In a rainee session, Stigma maydis were obtained from a nearby newlinemarket. The Stigma maydis was dried in the shade or at ambient temperature (24 to newline27 0C). After that, the dried Stigma maydis was pulverized into a coarse powder. newlineDr. S.K. Mahajan, retired professor of government college, Khargone, Madhya newlinePradesh, discovered and validated Stigma maydis. Stigma maydis were dried at 24 newlineto 27 0C, after being authenticated. until they were free of moisture before being newlineevaluated physically for various criteria. The pharmacognostical and phytochemical newlineevaluation of Stigma maydis herb was performed. The fresh herb of Stigma maydis newlinehaspale yellowish or brownish colour and on drying which is turn into dark newlinebrownish colour. The herb is smooth, wrinkled, silky, and filamentous in shape, newlinewith a thickness of 0.1 to 0.2 millimeter and a diameter of up to twenty newlinecentimeters. The individual plant material was properly dried because the loss on newlinedrying value of Stigma maydis indicating the same and was found to be less than newline9.8% w/w. The physiological and non-physiological ash content, as well as the newlinelack of clay and sand in the crude dried plant material, are indicated by total ash newlinevalues less than 6.5 percent weight/weight, acid insoluble ash value 1.65 percent newlineweight/weight andwater-soluble ash value 3.6 percent weight/weight. The newlineextractive value (weight/weight) of pet. ether extract of Stigma maydis is 10 %, for newlineethyl acetate extract is 3.6 %, for ethanol extract is 5.2 % and for water extract is newline12 % were found. Moreover, the dried powdered material showed fluorescence newlinecharacteristic at different wavelength of UV light. The reaction of drug powder newlinewith various chemical reagents such as 10% sodium hydroxide, newlinechloroform, sulphuric acid, nitric acid, ammonia solution, ethanol, picric acid , I2 newlinesoln newline., CH3OH, concentrated hydrochloric acid, CH3COOH and FeCl3 with drug newlinepowder were resulted into lime peel colour, bear brown colo
