Abstract: | Literature is the reflection of life and this life entirely depends on nature. This consciousness of the newlinewriters has brought the two disciplines of ecology and literary criticism together. The purpose is to newlinerestore the Earth s health, which was lost owing to man s wrongdoing. With the increasing ecological newlinecrisis, there are lots of ecological studies about the environmental problems. Edward O. Wilson has newlinedescribed the 21st century as century of environment (Buell 3). Ecocriticism emerged in the 1990s as a newlinefield of study that studies about nature and environment and focuses on the relationship of humans and newlinenature. It has an earth centered approach to literary studies. It studies the relations among writers, texts newlineand the society. The current study seeks to explore select poems in Indian literature from an ecocritical newlineperspective. Ecosophy is a philosophical study of ethics focusing not on human values but on eco-centric newlinevalues, the nature of the world and the self. It makes the theme of these poems much more relevant and newlinetransnational. The solution to the current problem of the earth on the verge of eco-cide, lies in the Vedic newlineliterature. Sustainable living or as the Vedas say, Simple living and High Thinking is the answer. The newlineselect poems in three different regional Indian literature point out to the fact that it is time to use the newlinenatural resources discreetly or face decadence of our nature and culture. Thus, through these poems, an newlineattempt has been made to help in bringing about a sense of eco-consciousness in the minds of the readers newlineand develop their conservationist attitude towards nature. It is thus construed that these poets are the well newlinewishers of society. newline |
