Abstract: iii newlineABSTRACT newlinePower quality is regarded as the significant factor, which has newlinegained more attention among the manufacturers and customers in the recent newlinedays. The variations of frequency, current and voltage are described by the newlinepower quality of the system. As the usage of non-linear loads are increased, newlinethe occurrence of PQ (Power Quality) problems like voltage sag/swell, notch, newlineflickers and harmonics is also increased in the distribution system. The newlineenormous usage of these non-linear loads inserts the non-sinusoidal current newlineinto the grid, which causes a distortion in the line voltage at PCC (Point of newlineCommon Coupling). The operations of the system devices are severely newlineaffected by these issues and so the mitigation of these distortions is highly newlinemandatory for enhancing the overall performance of system. The PQ issues newlinehave caused variety of drawbacks like equipment damage, time delay, newlinedelivery delay, production loss and scrap production. newlineThe utilization of FACTS (Flexible AC transmission system) newlinedevice in the Distributed generation system is considered as the magnificent newlinesolution for mitigating these issues. Among the different FACTS devices, the newlinerole of UPFC (Unified power flow controller) in the mitigation of voltage and newlinecurrent distortions is highly remarkable. The series and shunt converters of newlinethe UPFC are linked through a DC link capacitor. The series transforme newline
