dc.description.abstractThe world is experiencing a faster construction practice as infrastructural newlinedevelopment decides the economic status of a nation. Precast construction is one of the newlinepractices adopted world-wide to complete projects at much faster rate without newlinecompromising quality of materials and workman ship. Precast construction practices have newlinegained importance in the past two decades in the Indian sub-continent. Also, earthquake newlineresistant design of structures are gaining importance as its happening is becoming a newlinecommon natural disaster in most parts of the nation. So considerable research in this area newlineis necessary to understand the behaviour of precast connections under reverse cyclic newlineloading conditions. Connection in precast structures includes beam-column connection, newlinebeam-to-beam connection, column-to-column connection, slab to beam connection, and newlinecolumn to foundation connection. The performance of connections can help us to newlineunderstand the distribution of resultant forces. The forces of the superstructure are newlinetransferred to the foundation through the column. So the precast column to foundation was newlineselected for the study. The joints are detailed to sustain large deformation but no specific newlineguidelines are available in Indian codes of practices. In the present study, numerical and experimental investigations were carried out on three different precast column to foundation connections, viz. precast column connected to foundation using base plate and J bolt, pocket connection and grouted sleeve connection. Out of these three connections, two different detailing was proposed on the pocket foundation connection and it was compared with the other precast connections and the conventional monolithic connection. All the specimens were designed for the same loads and the experiments were carried out for the same type of lateral cyclic loading condition. One half scaled models of all the specimens were casted and tested for reverse cyclic loading conditions. The numerical modelling was also carried out on all the five specimens using the
