Abstract: Malnutrition results from a diet in which nutrients are either not enough to meet the daily requirement, or are more enough than the requirements. Malnutrition refers to the situation where there is an unbalanced diet in which some nutrients are in excess, lacking or wrong proportion. Early childhood (0-5 years) is the period for a child s physical and ociopsychological newlinedevelopment. Children needs more care and attention during this period. Malnutrition weakens every part of the immune system. It increases susceptibility to infection like malaria, measles, indigestion, vomiting, recurrent periods of diarrhoea, acute malnutrition and the existing nutritional deficit. WHO reported that, Globally, 149.2 million children under the age of 5 years of age were stunted, 45.4 million wasted and 38.9 million overweight in 202015. Global Hunger Index (GHI) in 2021 reports that, India ranked 101st out of 116 countries. In Surat District, as per Women and Child Development Department in March 2018, 10.59 % of children are moderately Underweight, 1.29 % of severe underweight and the total percent of underweight were 11.88 out of 88.12 percent of normal under-fives18.
