Abstract: Background: Diabetes mellitus is a non-communicable disease with rising prevalence across the world particularly in developing countries. Reactive oxygen species generated by hyperglycemia modify structure and function of bimolecular. The total antioxidant capacity assay is used to determine total antioxidant power of plasma. It has estimated that total antioxidant capacity significantly reduced in T2DM. Val16Ala may be a single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) within the SOD2 gene, predicted to affect intra mitochondria transport of the enzyme. Many medical researchers have supported that the TT genotype of SOD2 gene Val 16 Ala polymorphism is associated with development and pathogenesis of Type 2 diabetes mellitus. newlineObjective: To evaluate HbA1c, Lipid Profile, Oxidative stress parameters, correlation between HbA1c and Lipid profile, study of SOD2 gene Val16Ala polymorphism and it s correlation with total antioxidant capacity in T2DM and healthy controls. newlineStudy design and Methods: The present study was conducted in 340 human subjects out of which 170 were healthy controls (Group- I) and 170 subjects were T2DM patients (Group-II). This study was carried out in Rama Medical College, Hospital and Research centre, Kanpur. All the biochemical parameters were estimated by standard procedures and genetic analysis were carried out by Isolation of DNA, gene amplification, RFLP and electrophoresis. newline newline
