Abstract: Friction drilling is a modern sheet metal drilling technology in which newlineheat is created by friction between the revolving conical tool and the metal newlineplate. This heat is used to drill a hole into the steel plate without causing any newlineloss of metal. Frictional heat increases the elasticity of the work material newlineduring this operation, causing the softened workpiece material to extrude on newlinethe front and back sides of the drilled hole. Following that, it generates a newlinewasher-like shape and a bush in the drilled workpiece, providing the needed newlinesection for subsequent threading. As a result, the formation of bushing plays newlinean important role in the friction drilling process, and the current research newlinemainly focuses on it. newlineMild steel, a low carbon steel is a commonly available sheet material is newlineemployed as the workpiece material for this study. In both the normalised or newlinehot forged form, low carbon steel has good weldability, machinability, high newlinestrength, and impact characteristics. Screw machine components like pins, newlineshafts, universal beams steel structures, drop forgings, angles and channels newlineand industrial sectors like automobiles, manufacturing, pipings, oil and gas newlinechambers are all made of low carbon steel. The sheet metals are mainly newlinefabricated based on high strength to low weight ratio, leak-proof joints, and newlineability of producing a hole in sheet metal. So, the fabrication of sheet metal is newlineone of the most important aspects of this thesis. newlineIn this present work a low cost, semi-automatic friction drilling newlinemachine is used to drill on a low carbon steel sheet metal. Friction drilling newlinetools are made out of Stainless Steel tool steel with three distinct tool angles newline(30and#730;, 38and#730; and 46and#730;) and three different diameters (7.3 mm, 9.2mm, and newline10.9mm) The friction drilling of low carbon steel is carried out effectively in newlinethe friction drilling machine. newline
