Abstract: Chapter 1 gives a broad insight into layered double hydroxides, mechanism of wound healing, anatomy of bone, stages of fracture healing, electrospinning and polymers and drugs used in biomaterial fabrication. newlineChapter 2 provides a detailed review of literature about this research work. A detailed description of meta-analysis, the synthesis of layered double hydroxides, fabrication of wound dressing materials and bone implants are discussed with relevant literature. newlineChapter 3 aims to assess the wound healing efficacy of rats in treating second-degree burns with 1% silver sulfadiazine (AgSD) which falls under the class of sulphonamide antibiotics. A systematic literature review and meta-analysis was performed according to the PICO (Population, Intervention, Comparison, and Outcomes) strategy. The review found 100 studies in PubMed, Web of Science and other search engines. Of these, 70 studies were pre-selected after removing the duplicates. After independent analysis by two reviewers, only seven studies met the inclusion criteria for meta-analysis. All studies except one showed faster wound closure by the application of silver sulfadiazine ointment. Using the random-effects model, the healing was faster in AgSD treated groups when compared to the control group on day 21, with a statistically significant mean difference of -2.72, CI95 [-4.99, -0.45] between treatment and control groups (p lt 0.01). The results of this meta-analysis reveal that silver sulfadiazine aids in faster healing of second-degree burns. newlineChapter 4 explains the synthesis and characterization of MgAl layered double hydroxides (L). newline
