Abstract: newline A detailed investigation has been made to develop dry and moist pet foods from newlinechicken meat. The physico-chemical, microbiological parameters, toxicological studies along newlinewith dog feeding trail under different packaging conditions of pet food samples were assessed newlineat the Department of Livestock Products Technology (Meat Science), Veterinary College and newlineResearch Institute, Namakkal - 637002. newlineThe treatments were divided into four groups viz., TC (Control-without chicken newlinemeat/offal meal) dry pet food, T1 (Dry pet food incorporated with Chicken boneless breast), newlineT2 (Dry pet food incorporated with Whole chicken) and T3 (Dry pet food incorporated with newlineChicken offal meal) and all treatments were formulated to contain 18.5 per cent crude protein newlineand 3900Kcal/kg of gross energy as per the Association of American Feed Control Official, newline(2014). newlineThe moist pet food diet formulations were also divided into four treatments viz., as TC newline(Control-without chicken meat/offal meal), T1 (Moist pet food incorporated with Chicken boneless newlinebreast, liver and heart), T2 (Moist pet food incorporated with whole chicken, liver and heart), and T3 newline(Moist pet food incorporated with Chicken offal meal, liver and heart). All the formulations were newlineadjusted to contain 12 to 13 per cent crude protein and 66 to 70 per cent moisture for adult dog. newlineThe moisture, crude protein, crude fibre, ether extract, total ash (per cent) and gross energy newlinevalues were 8.52, 18.31, 5.70, 5.24, 6.89 and 3933 Kcal/kg, respectively for dry pet food newlineincorporated with whole chicken and the values for the moist pet food incorporated with whole newlinechicken were 69.55, 12.64, 5.55, 7.36,3.17 and 1856 Kcal/kg, respectively. newlineThe dry pet food formulated with whole chicken was found to be acceptable based on the rat newlinefeeding trial viz., low feed intake, higher feed conversion ratio (FCR), high weekly and cumulative newlineweekly body weight gain, low protein intake and high protein efficiency ratio (PER). The moist pet newlinefood prepared with whole chicken was fou
