Abstract

The people of South India have a great tradition, their culture dates back to two thousand years and more. In the era of South India, every kingdom or king followed a kind of traditional way to rule the country. The kingdoms ruled well and also fostered the religion and follow many traditions to elevate the religion. So, they built temples to indorse the religion and reared the arts in it. The study focuses on one of the kingdom who ruled the South India called as the Nayaks. This study covers the region of Dindigul, it was one of the part of the earlier Madurai. Dindigul is an ancient city and ruled over by the kingdom of Madurai. In the modern days, which serves as the District headquarters of the Dindigul district.This research is based on the study of the rule and role of Nayaks in the Dindigul region, especially their contribution to art and architecture from 16th Century A.D. to 18th Century A.D. newline
