Automotive and aerospace industries are undergoing an endless newlinestrive for fabricating airy, cost-efficient, and fuel-adept components, without newlinesacrificing reliability and safety, especially during their real time newlineperformance. Such attempts have paved the path for momentous renovation in newlinethe design of structures, optimization in material usage by reducing the part newlinethickness and employment of materials with reduced density. Comprehensive newlineinvestigation w.r.t employment of materials with reduced thickness have newlineexposed that, alloys of aluminium and steel can be replaced by the alloys of newlinemagnesium (Mg), in a wide variety of automotive and aerospace based newlineapplications. This is because the density of the alloys of Mg is nearly 2/3rd newlinedensity of Al and 1/3rd of steel and these Mg alloys possess comparatively newlinelarger strength to weight ratio, enhanced metallic behavior, reasonable newlinestiffness and desirable mechanical properties. newlineUnique features of magnesium (Mg) and its alloys including newlineexcellent properties of damping, reasonable specific stiffness, larger specific newlinestrength, meager density etc., make them more preferable in automotive, newlinemarine, aerospace, biomedical and electronic industrial sectors. At the same newlinetime, alloys of Mg due to their certain elemental properties cannot be easily newlinejoined using the classical fusion-based welding methodologies. For example, newlinethe strong kinship of Mg alloys with nitrogen and oxygen, leads to the newlinegeneration of magnesium oxide during joining. This magnesium oxide newlinepermanently remains in the area of the joint itself, as it cannot be cleared newlineaway easily, due to its large density and melting point features newline
