With the increased development in this fast paced society, vehicles become the primary need rather than a luxury item. traffic jams have been increasing since then. this increase in traffic jams has been directly proportional to fuel consumption causing discomfort and annoyance to drivers. vanet (vehicular ad hoc network) provides not only efficient but also safer, comfortable and reliable alternatives to current transportation systems. in this research, fuel consumption reduction is guaranteed by reducing the waiting time of vehicles in the road traffic by making accurate and faster decision regarding traffic management first research work attempts to reduce the fuel consumption over vanet by constructing the finite automata model in terms of vehicle pattern. with the help of these finite automata, various eco factors of vanet environment can be preserved, so that optimal routing with reduced fuel consumption can be guaranteed. this finite automata model will measure out the co2 emission and the traffic rate in the peak hour. this work also calculated the fuel, co2 and traffic level in weekly basis also. second research work attempts to reduce the fuel consumption with the concern of delay factor by introducing the method namely fuel consumption and delay aware traffic scheduling method (fcd-tsm). to support the vehicles with different transmission ranges and sensitivity, in this work coverage aware clustering is done in which vanet nodes will be grouped together through which faster data communication can be ensured. to ensure the successful data transmission and guaranteeing accurate decision making, in this work message replication quota is decided according to nodes count in cluster, which reduce the network load and ensures the successful data transmission newline newline newline
