Abstract: Schiff bases and their metal complexes are unique class of compounds incoordination chemistry. The simple methods of preparation and special electronicproperties, and enormous applications in diverse fields are the factors inspiring theresearchers to be fascinated in this field till this date. newlineIn this present study, we have chosen a novel Schiff base derived from thiophene-2-carbaldehyde and 4-pyridinyl thiosemicarbazide (A). We have investigated its metalcomplexes with 3-d metal ions; Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II). The mixed ligand complexeshaving this Schiff base A as primary ligand and thiophene-2-carbalidine chitosan (B),2,2 Bipyridine (C) and L-Histidine (D) as secondary ligands have also been studied. Thestructure and geometry of the Schiff base ligands and complexes have been carried out byelemental analysis, molar conductance, 1H and 13C NMR and mass spectra, FT-IR,UV-Vis and Fluorescent spectra, magnetic and electrochemical techniques. Themorphology has been studied by powder XRD and SEM methods. The thermal propertieswere analyzed by TGA/DTG technique. newlineThe applications of the synthesised complexes as antimicrobials against bacteriaand fungi, BSA binding and chemical nuclease activity with pUC19 DNA, catalysts inoxidative degradation of methylene blue and cyclohexane oxidation by hydrogenperoxide, corrosion inhibitors and anticancer agents have been explored in detail. newlineIn the Schiff base complexes, CoA, NiA and CuA, the Schiff base A binds metal iontetradentately, through the imino and pyridine nitrogen atoms, and thiophene andthioenolic sulphur atoms. CoA and NiA have been designated tetrahedral geometry, whereas, CuA shows square planar configuration newline
