dc.description.abstract | Emissions of greenhouse gases from fossil-fuel combustion for power generation alone contributed 9.795 Gigatonnes (Gt). Due to Global carbon capture researchers are working hard to keep global temperature rising below 2oC.Chemical absorption is one of the most assuring techniques for CO2 capture. Use of monoethanolamine (MEA) is generally preferred as a baseline solvent, due to its fast absorption rate, cheap, reasonable volatility and high loading capacity with the low CO2 partial pressure flue gas. However, MEA solutions are not without problems. For example, equipment corrosion in the presence of O2 has been a concern for amine-based CO2 absorption units. A major portion of the energy is consumed by the solvent regeneration process for its reuse, due to the high temperature (and#707;120oC) stripping/ solvent regeneration. In addition, high temperature stripping leads to the degradation of the solvent nature and formation of undesired harmful by-products. To maintain the same solvent absorption capacity, the addition of solvent is required, hence it leads to the solvent make-up cost. newlineHence, the reduction of cost for the CO2 capture process is a vital step in making the post-combustion CO2 capture process viable, with tremendous research dedicated to this endeavour. The research covers an attempt to employ suitable techniques to regenerate the carbon-rich solvent with minimal energy consumption, negligible solvent degradation and with scaling-up potential. For solving this problems megasonics-assisted (1 MHz - tank-type) solvent regeneration process had been studied by experimentation. newline | |
