Abstract: The miniaturized multi-band microstrip components are compact sized, newlinelow cost, multi-functional, high integrity microwave devices. These can be newlinefabricated using printed circuit technology. These find application in recent newline5G wireless communication networks and beyond and are associated with newlinedifferent wireless standards, such as global system for mobile communication newline(GSM), wireless local-area network (WLAN) and world interoperability for newlinemicrowave access (Wi-MAX). Moreover, different techniques are used for newlineachieving multi-band operation and miniaturization, in passive microwave newlinecomponents like filters, antennas, couplers and power dividers. The first part of the thesis deals with designing the triple band microstrip bandstop filter operating at 1.8 GHz, 2.4 GHz, and 3 GHz frequencies. It is designed from conventional narrow-band microstrip newlinebandstop filter, where five L shaped open- circuited resonators are newlineelectromagnetically coupled with the center transmission line. This filter has newlinebeen fabricated on FR-4 substrate with dielectric constant 4.3 and thickness newline1.6 mm. Multi-band operation and miniaturization of the filter have been newlineachieved using via-holes and spurlines. Via-hole placed in the end of each L newlineresonator of the conventional bandstop filter converts half-wavelength opencircuited newlinestubs into quarter-wavelength shorted stubs and reduces its overall newlinelength to 63 mm from 126 mm. The concept of spurlines is used to achieve newlinemulti-band operation as well as miniaturization. Spurlines are realized by newlineetching an L shaped slot on a microstrip line and it can act as a narrow band newlinebandstop filter. In this design, two spurlines of different lengths designed to newlineoperate at two different frequencies have replaced two L shaped resonators in newlinethe conventional bandstop filter newline newline
