Abstract: | The mechanical, wear, hydrophobicity, drop load impact toughness, newlinefracture toughness, and fatigue behaviour of nanoclay toughened glasscaryota newlineurens fibre reinforced epoxy resin hybrid composites were prepared newlineand characterized. the key goals of this research are to see how the intraply newlinefibre structure increases the load bearing effect and the effect of incorporating newlinesilane surface treated fibre and particle addition into the nanoclay toughened newlineepoxy resin. hand looming was used to create the glass-caryota urens intraply newlinefibre. to strengthen the adhesion of reinforcements with epoxy resin, the fibre newlineand particle were surface treated with silane substance. hand layup was used newlineto render the high-toughness composites, which were then cured. astm newlinestandards were used to investigate the composites, as well as suggested newlineprocess variables. the successful silane grafting on fibre and particle surfaces newlinewas verified by ft-ir spectral results. the results of the tensile, flexural, impact, and hardness tests showed that adding nanoclay particles to the resin increased durability while reducing hardness. however, the addition of a large quantity of sic compensates for the lack of hardness. similarly, the wear behaviour of epoxy composites improves with the presence of sic particles. the improved wear resistance of composite has been impaired by nanoclay toughening. pure newlineepoxy resin has a greater hydrophobicity, with a contact angle of up to 1090. newlinethe contact angle of the nanoclay toughened epoxy resin composite, on the newlineother side, reveals a slight dip. and then, regardless of the silane surface newlinetreatment on the particle and fibre, the contact angle would not go any further. newlinewear behaviour of nanoclay toughened epoxy resin composites results in a newlinesmall decrease in sp. wear loss and cof. the addition of 1.0vol.% sic to the newlinenanoclay-epoxy resin blend, on the other hand, increased the wear resistance newline newline |
