Abstract: The research work entitled A CRITICAL SURVEY ON SOME ISSUES OF BIOMEDICAL newlineETHICS FROM EAST AND WEST has been divided into six chapters newlineincluding introduction and conclusion. newlineIn the first chapter, we have tried to answer some questions like what is ethics?, what is newlinemedical ethics?, how is medical ethics originated?, What are the new dimensions of medical newlineethics?, What are the problems in medical ethics?, How did bio-medical ethics emerge from newlinemedical ethics? etc. To define the concept of ethics, J. S. Mackenzie in his book A Manual of newlineEthics says the study of what is right or good in conduct . Again, William Lillie in his book newlineAn Introduction to Ethics, defines ethics as This is just the kind of question with which newlineethics deals- what is the true meaning of such words like good and right and ought newlinewhich are used so commonly in everyday conversation. Ethics or moral practice is the key of newlinepeaceful living or maintaining harmony in every facet of life. The problems of ethics in newlineprofessions are crucial, simply because the aim of the profession is two-folded viz., a newlinemonetary gain of the professionals and rendering service towards the society as well. If we newlinetake the example of medical ethics, we shall find there are lots of issues. Likewise, in any newlineother profession, the medical profession has also two-folded aims. As any professions require newlinerendering services to society necessarily involves some code of conducts or norms and all newlinethese are nothing but moral practices. newlineIn the second chapter, we have discussed the genesis of medical ethics. In order to know the newlinegenesis of medical ethics we have to depend on the and#256;yurveda system of medicine, the newlineBuddhist medical system, the medical practices of China and Japan from the Eastern newlineperspectives and Hellenic, Hellenistic and Roman medical systems from the Western newlineperspectives. Indian medicine has come to humans as Devine knowledge. Caraka Saand#7747;hitand#257; newlinexi newlineand Suand#347;ruta Saand#7745;hitand#257; and Aand#7779;and#7789;and#257;and#7749;gahand#7771;dayam are treated as primary texts in Indian medicine. newlineThese three works are attributed
