dc.description.abstract | Diesel engines were widely preferred in the industrial sector, automotive sector and agricultural applications due to their higher thermal efficiency and durability. In upcoming years, this dependency is increasing with rapid depletion of fossil fuel reserves, escalating fuel prices, concerns of environmental emission by combustion of hydrocarbon fuel. Various alternative fuels like oxygenated fuels (esters, ethers and alcohol), synthetic oils (coal, natural gas, and biomass fuel and waste plastic oils), gaseous fuels (H2 gas, methane gas, coal, natural gas, LPG). Among various alcohols available, extensive research was carried out with methanol, ethanol, bio-ethanol and butanol for reducing the dependency of fossil fuel reserves [6-13] and these alcohols were found effective in lowering the exhaust emissions. newlineHigher alcohol like butanol and pentanol gives a difference in performance than the lower alcohol fuels like ethanol and methanol in terms of improved knock resistance, better performance and minimized HC and CO emissions. The increasing demand for fossil fuels along with stringent emission norms thrived the researchers to search for a potential alternate fuel for existing unmodified diesel engines. Hazardous level of emissions from the diesel engine was higher in recent days which create a tremendous threat to the atmosphere and human beings survival and its health effects. Then, owing to the peak demand for fossil fuel in this current decades, the researchers strive to lower the tailpipe emissions, produce alter options for the fossil fuel and discover the brand new energy source from waste and not used biological products namely, renewable algae oils and first to third generation biodiesel/biofuels. newline | |
