Abstract: In the present world, as fossil fuels are being depleted at a very fast rate, need for alternative fuels have increased. The research is being conducted all over the world for identification of bio-fuels for substituting the conventional fossil fuels. The automobile sector has grown tremendously and it demands better functioning of internal combustion engines. For satisfying the demands of the automotive compression ignition engines, such as high efficiency and lower emissions, the priority for alternative fuels have increased. In this research, biodiesel blends were prepared by combining flaxseed oil and cottonseed oil with diesel to form bio diesel. Using transesterification process, flaxseed and cottonseed oil were prepared. The engine performance tests were conducted by running a naturally aspirated, single cylinder, direct injection diesel engine setup using the cottonseed-flaxseed bio diesel blends. The engine performance tests were conducted at various loading conditions, with different blends of flaxseed-cottonseed bio diesel combinations. The vital combustion engine parameters affecting the overall performance, such as engine power, engine and fuel efficiency of the bio diesel fuelled internal combustion engine was studied. The variations in mechanical efficiency of the bio diesel fuelled internal combustion engine were calculated upon increasing the blend proportion of bio fuel blend. The exhaust gas analysis was done for identifying the percentage of emissions such as carbon oxides, nitrogen oxides and hydrocarbons. The temperature of the gases at exhaust manifold and smoke opacity was identified. The overall performance of the bio diesel fuelled internal combustion engine was evaluated. newline newline newline
