dc.description.abstractnewline ABSTRACT newlineAccording to World Health Organization (WHO) about 450 million people newlineworldwide suffer from some form of mental disorder, and that one in four people newlinemeet criteria at some point in their life (Sherer, 2002). India, the second most newlinepopulated country of the world with a population of 1.027 billion, is a country of newlinecontrasts. The population is predominantly rural, and 36% of people still live below newlinepoverty line. There is a continuous migration of rural people into urban slums creating newlinemajor health and economic problems. The prevalence of mental morbidity in rural and newlineurban areas of the country and these rates are comparable to global rates. newlineEmotional problems are those problems in which a person turns the problems newlineinwardly and exhibits them in the form of emotional symptoms such as anxiety, newlinedepression, and withdrawal or in the form of psychosomatic disorders. The newlinebehavioral problems, on the other hand, are problems such as delinquency and newlineaggressive behavior in which a person turns his problems outwardly and expresses newlinethem in the form of acting out behaviors. newlineIn view of the need of well-standardized instrument to measure Emotional and newlinebehavioural problems among Indian population, there is a strong need to develop newlinethese forms into Telugu, one of the South Indian languages. The present study aims newlineadopt and standardize the Achenbach System of Empirically Based Assessment newline(ASEBA) adult form namely Adult Self Report (ASR) in Telugu language, a South newlineIndian Language. Telugu is the third most widely spoken language in India. It is the newlinemother tongue of over 74 million people.
