Abstract: Multicarrier modulation attracts a lot of attention in 5G Radio Access newlineNetwork because of their capability to efficiently cope up with a high degree of newlineheterogeneity in terms of services and requirements. In this research work, we newlineemphasize the CFO estimation technique comparison of radio access network newlineusing two types of multicarrier Communications: conventional Orthogonal newlineFrequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) with Cyclic Prefix and Filter Bank newlineMulti-Carrier (FBMC) Modulations. OFDM is very sensitive to Carrier newlineFrequency Offset (CFO) due to imperfect synchronization. Moreover, OFDM newlinesystems sacrifice data transmission rates because of the insertion of Cyclic newlinePrefix. As 5G envisages a new class of challenging services to be supported, a newlineparadigm shift in current telecommunications technology is expected. As an newlineexample, radio access is feasible and has several advantages through alternative newlinewaveforms other than Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing (OFDM). newlineThis work studies FBMC as an enabler of 5G from this perspective by newlinepresenting an overview of FBMC systems and discussing various prototype newlinefilters for such a multiplexing system. The Filter Bank Multicarrier Modulation newlinedoes not require CP extension and shows higher robustness to residual frequency newlineoffset than CP-OFDM by taking advantage of spectral containment of its newlinemodulation prototype filter. However addressing CFO issues in the multicarrier newlinesystem is still an open topic. In this research work, the Method for CFO newlineestimation based on the state-space model discussed in the Kalman filter is newlinedeveloped for the FBMC system. A Kalman filter is an MMSE tracker and it is newlineused to track the CFO present in the multicarrier system and refined through newlinerecursive fashion. newlineSimulation results confirm that the FBMC system can achieve better newlineperformance than OFDM because of the low out of band emission of its newlineprototype filter. Final Simulation results illustrate the enhanced ability of the newlineproposed algorithm relative to existing approaches newline
