Abstract: | Nowadays rapidly changing organizational environment (for instance, the prominence of boundary-less professions, uncertainty of organizational downsizing/reorganization) have made recognizing and resolving the job content plateau increasingly essential (McCleese and Eby, 2006). Many individuals perceiving job content plateau would agree that being stuck in the same job role with a limited chance of getting new assignments is one of the most unpleasant and frustrating career situations. As a result, the job content plateau has become an increasing cause of concern for organizations (Allen et al., 1999; Hofstetter and Cohen, 2014). Numerous research scholars observed that reaching a job content plateau trigger negative job outcomes such as reducing job satisfaction (Chang, 2003; McCleese and Eby, 2006), decreased work engagement (McCleese and Eby, 2006), lack of job satisfaction (Stout et al., 1988), and enhanced turnover intention (Hofstetter and Cohen, 2014). Additionally, the studies have also deduced that job content plateau is linked to adverse job attitudes of employees and when contrasted to the hierarchical plateau, it might be more counterproductive to the organization (Allen et al., 1998). As a result, extensive efforts are being made to investigate the precursors of job content plateau to discover effective solutions for resolving issues induced by this kind of plateau. In this line, the current research investigates the influence of career adaptability on job content plateau in the higher education sector. Moreover, the underlying intervening mechanisms viz. the dual mediation links of job crafting, and person-job fit among the career adaptability and job content plateau relationship are examined. The current research also accentuates exploring the moderating role of demographic factors i.e. age, gender, type of university, and designation on career adaptability and job content plateau relationship newline |
