Abstract: Over the period of past few decades, incidence of fungal infections is on the rise due to newlinecontinuous augmentation of certain predisposing factors like immunosuppressive conditions, newlinebroad spectrum antibiotics, indwelling medical devices and intravenous drug misuse.1 newlineFungal infections are usually classified as primary or opportunistic. Primary fungal newlineinfections occurs in immunocompetent individuals whereas, opportunistic fungal infections newlinemanifest in patients with immunocompromised status. Opportunistic fungal infections are newlineconsidered as an important cause of morbidity and mortality both in immunocompromised and newlinecritically ill immunocompetent patients. newline Among various opportunistic fungal infections, candidiasis is most prevalent newlinethroughout the world.1 The yeast belonging to genus Candida is unique among various fungal newlinepathogens as it can exist in both commensal and pathogenic state. newline
