An Analytical Study of Selected Paintings Depicting Great Thoughts on Indian Aesthetics Religion and Spirituality

Abstract

A sample of 100 paintings i.e. five each of 20 famous painting newlineartists were selected for study. These are Pratiksha Apurav, Salma newlineArastu, Manjit Bawa, Nandlal Bose, Arpana Caur, V. S. Gaitonde, Ram newlineKumar, Satish Gujral, M. F. Husain, A. Ramachandran Nair, Ganesh newlinePyne, Sohan Qadri, S. H. Raza, Jamini Roy, G. R. Santosh, Amrita newlineShergil, Chitralekha Singh, Abanindranath Tagore, Gaganenderanath newlineTagore and Rabindranath Tagore. newlineVisual analysis of each painting was done to (i) identify the great newlinethought depicted there in as theme and classify as aesthetic, religious or newlinespiritual, (ii) identify the source of inspiration as great thought, self newlinemotivation / inner vision or other sources, (iii) identify the impact of each newlinepainting on the society as a whole for its transformation. newlineThe primary data generated by visual analysis and the secondary newlinedata about individual paintings and biodata of artists were coded and newlinecategorized and analyzed in year-wise five sets as P-1, P-2, P-3, P-4, P-5. newlineThe results of Statistical analysis confirmed the following hypotheses. newline
