A Controlled Clinical Study of Punarnavadi Yoga Aschottana in the Management of Vataja Abhishyanda W R T Allergic Conjunctivitis Seasonal Perennial

Abstract

Vataja Abhishyanda is one of the sarvagata netra vikaras as explained by many ancient Acharyas. The etiopathology, clinical signs and symptomatology is scientifically correlated to allergic conjunctivitis. Allergic conjunctivitis is a group of newlinediseases affecting the ocular surface which is associated with hypersensitivity reactions i.e., seasonal allergic conjunctivitis and perinneal allergic conjunctivitis. The Clinical study was conducted at Shalakya Tantra. Department JSS Ayurveda Medical College and Hospital, Lalitadripura Road, Alanahalli, Mysuru and its peripheral centers, and PIA, Vadodara, to evaluate the efficacy of Punarnavadi yoga Aschottana in the management of Vataja Abhishyanda. 140 patients of Vataja Abhishyanda with the inclusion criteria were selected for the study by Block randamisation method. The RandD Laboratory of Shreedhareeyam Farmherbs India (Pvt) Ltd. has developed the Sterile Herbal Eye Drops Punarnavadi Eye drops. The Conjunctival Scrapings were taken before and after the drug instillation, it has been found that the Trial group has shown significant improvement in the reduction of the allergic spectrum cells of conjunctiva. Epithelial cells, Eosinophils, Goblet Cells, Nutrophils have shown the p value of 0.0001,which denotes the efficacy of the drug w.r.t. Control group. After analyzing the Subjective parameter findings by using wilcoxon Signed ranked tests, the trial drug and control drug have shown significant results on the subjective parameters. Meanwhile the Punarnavadi eye drops has shown Superior results in different interval of time and also post treatment findings. The trial drug contains the quercitin flavonoid in HPLC studies and also many rotenoids, newlineglucosides, phenolic compounds are found in GCMS, LCMS, Spectrometry which indicates the genuinity of the ophthalmic drops.Punarnavadi eye drops has shown a significant result in comparison with Brihat Panchamooladi eye drops.
