Abstract: The purpose of this study was to determine the differences in the performance variables between league qualified and non qualified teams, between final qualified and non qualified teams and also between winner and runner up teams of the Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University inter collegiate handball men tournament held at Koviloor Andavar College of Physical Education and Sports Science in the year 2019. The key indicators used in this study were the offensive and defensive skill performance variables that include the percentage of success and failures from back court position, percentage of success and failures in fast break, percentage of success and failures from wing position, percentage of success and failures from pivot position, percentage of success and failures in penalty, percentage of success and failures from defense and percentage of success and failures from goalkeeping. The data obtained on the selected criterion variables in the Pool A and the Pool B matches were subjected to descriptive statistical analysis in order to understand the characteristics of the players. The Kruskal Wallis test was applied separately for the five teams in pool-A and pool-B matches to find out any significant difference in the criterion variable among these teams that influenced for their success or failure in their respective pools whenever the Kruskal Wallis test revealed a significant difference the pair wise comparison was made through post hoc test to discover significant differences. The Chi square test was used to determine the difference in skill performance in the semi-final and final matches.
